Our Client is a large national health and beauty retail chain employing over 13,000 people. Their product range includes toiletries and personal care products many of which are Own Brand manufactured products.
They are now seeking a New Product Development Technologist - Personal Care (Toiletries). This position is a full-time permanent role and will be based in Surrey. The position reports to the Quality Assurance and Technical Manager
within the Own Brand - Commercial Division.
Job Purpose
Work closely with the Own Brand Manager and Buyer to develop the brand plan, by providing technical expertise throughout the new product development process and pre and post product compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Own Brand product ranges with Brand Manager and Buyer; setting out the technical requirements
- Deliver the technical elements of the New Product Development process and the ongoing technical product compliance
- Manage quality process within category, including for example product, packaging and pack claims. Ensure pack claims made can be substantiated; and quality issues are resolved with suppliers and other relevant departments
- Collaborate with suppliers to enhance and increase product performance, quality systems and NPD; ensuring they adhere to quality and legal requirements
- Deliver the technical aspects of all critical paths to budget/cost and within set timescales
- Technical Expert - be an expert source of technical information, standards and legal requirements
- Regularly review and benchmark Own Brand products, with key competitors to ensure comparable quality is maintained
- Analyse trends from customer complaints or compliments; communicate and utilise information to improve quality and performance of product
- Continually keep up to date with standards, legal requirements and technical innovation
- Undertake store and supplier visits
- Develop build and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications / Experience
This role requires a strong mix of technical knowledge, organisational skills, and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders. Also required, is the ability to balance the need for compliance and diligence with the commercial need for development at pace.
- A degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline
- Sound knowledge in formulation and packaging technology (Personal Care / Toiletries)
- Experience working in a fast paced commercial environment

In return our client is offering a competitive salary of £27,000 per annum basic plus benefits which include 25 - 30 days holiday, bonus and pension.
